The mat (also known as Contrology) refers to the original name given by Joseph Pilates to his method of physical fitness. It emphasizes the principles of control, precision, centering, breath and flow of movement. Contrology, now commonly known as Pilates, focuses on developing a strong core, improving flexibility, and promoting overall body awareness and control through a series of controlled and purposeful exercises.
